Coker University student teachers step into lead classroom roles across South Carolina

by Coker University

Hartsville, SC (01/28/2026) — Student teachers from Coker University are taking on instructional responsibilities in classrooms across South Carolina this spring as part of their required field experiences.

Through the Wiggins School of Education's Educator Preparation Program, candidates move beyond classroom observation to plan lessons, lead instruction, and manage classrooms before student teaching begins.

The program requires a minimum of 100 hours of supervised classroom experience, with many students completing closer to 150 hours. Placements are aligned with each student's certification area and are supported through partnerships with school districts across the state.

The full story examines how these field experiences prepare future educators and highlights the role of district partnerships in supporting teacher development.
