Oliver Receives 2015 Departmental Award

Kristen Oliver, a senior from Ladson, SC, has received the 2015 Departmental Award for the Department of Science and Mathematics.

Oliver is the Director of Registered Student Organizations for the Student Government Association, a Career Peer Mentor for the Department of Career Services, the President of Pause for Paws, Head Research Assistant for Dr. Jen Borgo's Ecology Research Lab, the Teaching Assistant for the Whole Organism and Ecology Lab classes, Student Representative of Coker's Undergraduate Research Journal, and a World Scholar. She is also conducting her own research project, currently funded by the Carolina Birding Club, which focuses on the potential antibiotic properties of the uropygial gland (preen gland) of passerines (songbirds).

Every year, the department faculty choose an exceptional graduating senior to receive this recognition. The student is chosen based on overall scholarship and contributions to the department and college community.
